Know How to Get a Virtual Queue Pass for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT

Disney World’s Newest attraction will be opening May 27th, 2022. If you’re planning on riding the brand new attraction Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind once it officially opens in EPCOT, there are some very important rules you’ll need to be aware of!

Cosmic Rewind will NOT feature a standby line upon its opening

This means if you want to ride it, you’ll have to either pay for a Lightning Lane to access the ride through the Individual Attraction Selection(IAS) Pay-Per-Ride service, or be lucky enough to snag a virtual queue return time. Disney Parks fans may have already had previous experience with virtual queues. Once upon a time Rise of the Resistance and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure required virtual queue return times in order to ride.

With the grand opening of Cosmic Rewind, Disney World is anticipating that this attraction will draw a very long wait times. To minimize guest wait times, Disney has announced that they will be once more implementing the virtual queue system in the My Disney Experience App. We predict that these limited availability return times and IAS will go very quickly! For this acritical we’ll be focusing on the Virtual Queue system. If you would like to learn more about IAS for Cosmic Rewind click here.

When can You Get a Virtual Queue Return Time

There will be 2 chances for you to try and join the virtual queue each day. The first chance will be at 7AM the day of your EPCOT visit. Guests do NOT need to be inside EPCOT to try and join at this time, but they will need a park pass reservation for EPCOT for that day.

The next chance to join will be at 1PM. Guests will need to be inside EPCOT to join the virtual queue at this time. Park Hopping doesn’t begin until 2PM each day, and by that point virtual queue spots will have likely filled up, so keep that in mind. In essence, you’ll want to have a Park Pass for EPCOT for this day to join at that 1PM spot and you’ll need to be in the park.

If you’re staying at a Deluxe Disney Resort, you will be eligible for a special perk will get another chance to join the virtual queue at 6PM. Guests who are eligible for the Extended Evening Hours perk and who want to sign up at this 6PM time will NOT need to be in EPCOT at 6PM to request to join the virtual queue.

TIP: Disney notes that guests should check the My Disney Experience app before their visit and before 7AM on the day of their visit to double check if there have been any changes to the virtual queue situation.

How to get a Virtual Queue Return Time

As mentioned, guest wanting to ride Cosmic Rewind will need to login to their My Disney Experience app to access the virtual queue system. When you open the app, there is a virtual queue section on the main page. This section now features information about the queue for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

If you click the “Join Virtual Queue” button, you’ll be taken to another screen that shows more information. This will also be the button you’ll need to press in order to join the virtual queue when the ride opens. From there you will follow the steps and complete the process.

Pro-Tips:

  • Stay off Disney’s Wifi

  • Do not waste time removing anyone that does not wish to ride. Every second will count with trying to snag a return time!

  • Make sure your travel party is links prior to your park visit. You will not have time to do this day of your EPCOT visit.

  • Be ready to click on the “Join Virtual Queue” button at 7am on the dot! If this virtual queue is anything like the previous Rise of the Resistance Boarding Pass system, this will be very important. The return times will be limited and we predict that these will go in a matter of seconds.

What Type of Attraction is Cosmic Rewind?

As it states in the name, this attractions is themed after the Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy film series! The attraction’s queue is located in the previous home to Universe of Energy.

Cosmic Rewind is a storytelling coaster. The ride features groundbreaking ride vehicles and technology that features the first ever reverse-launch on a Disney coaster and is one of the largest fully-enclosed coasters in the world! This story coaster rotates 360 degrees so guest can stay focused on the action! Riders face the “story” of the ride in vehicles that move from the left to the right rather than racing by it, as they usually do in conventional coasters sitting in fixed vehicles facing straight ahead.

The story brings rides to the Wonders of Xandar pavilion, where they’ll see the Galaxarium, complete with “a planetarium-type presentation”. During this presentation, Xandarians will show guests “their world, their people, and their advanced technologies.” However, our field trip to Xandar is interrupted when the Celestial Eson, AKA, The Searcher, comes to Earth to reset reality, resulting in the Guardians of the Galaxy coming in to try and defeat him. In the chaos, guests are sent back in time to witness the Big Bang.
